Special Interest: Supporting Reporters
Making a report of child abuse can be at a time traumatic and emotionally draining. How can we better support volunteers and staff if (or when) they need to report abuse? How can we stand up for and defend them? What should we do if we disagree about the need to report abuse? How can we keep the report confidential if the parents/guardians aren't keeping it confidential? What should we do if a volunteer/staff refuses to report abuse even though they have a legal responsibility and duty to report? We need help! Let's Plan to Protect® our volunteers and staff when they report abuse.
This webinar is designed for Board Members, Leaders, Supervisors, Pastors/Clergy, Counselors, Principals, and Directors. Victoria Bissell, Director of Training at Plan to Protect® and an educator, will discuss how we can do our duty of care for our Volunteers/Staff. We will address how to support and care for the person making a report. Often we provide support to the victim and we provide support to the perpetrators, but what about the person who has had to make the report? Victoria will also give practical tips for supporting volunteers/staff before and after they make a report, keeping things confidential, and what to do if parents or the community get involved. Let's raise the bar on protection and address how we can support the reporter.
